Renovating a historic building? We have historic maps, assessor records, photos, and more.

John Marshall House, 1873
The John Marshall House (at North and Fitch Streets) as it appeared in 1873

Appearance

The photo collection contains a separate file of house and building photos to make it easier to search for an image of a particular building.

Ownership

Deeds record who bought a property and when, and also contain legal descriptions of the property.
Note: The Museum does not store deeds, but they can be obtained at the Sonoma County Recorder's office, located at 103f 585 Fiscal Drive in Santa Rosa. Contact them at (707) 565-2651.

Construction Date

Assessor records can pinpoint the exact month a structure was built and its value at that time. Assessor records are stored in bound volumes and organized chronologically.

Modifications

Building permits are recorded with the city for authorized construction.
Note: The Museum does not store permits, but they can be obtained from the Healdsburg Community Development Office at 435 Allan Court in Healdsburg. Contact them at (707) 431-3348 to set up an appointment.

Residency

Phone and street directories list residents' names by address. Voting records frequently go back even further.
