The Museum has extensive
files of newspapers, historical documents, records, books, maps, and
photographs pertaining to Healdsburg and Sonoma County which may be
used to conduct personal and professional research. It is the Museum's
policy to allow public access to this valuable historical material while
protecting that material and providing staff assistance to researchers.
In Person
- Persons who wish to research in person must contact
the Museum staff in advance to discuss the type of research they wish
to do and to schedule an appointment. Appointments may be made from
Thursday through Saturday, 11:00am to 4:00pm.
- For in-person research, the Museum staff describes
what records may be helpful and shows the researcher where they are
located.
- The researcher shall be asked to sign a research
form. This form remains on file with the Museum and explains the Museum's
charges and stipulates that researchers agree to adhere to current
copyright laws in the use of Museum collection materials.
- Careful consideration is required in the handling
of research materials. No food or drink is allowed around research
materials.
- All researchers must be supervised by staff. No
one may be left unattended in the research archives.
- Archive use and staff time is free to Museum members
and students. Non-members may use the archive for a $10.00 fee per visit.
By Mail
Research requests received in the mail shall be handled
by the Museum's Research Curator. Usually, the first reply provides
basic information, including our fees. The charge for research by Museum
staff is $47.00 per hour, plus 15¢ for each photocopy.
General Policies
- Reproduction or publication of all materials must
be approved by the staff.
- For all approved reproduction or publication uses,
a Museum credit line is required. Failure to comply with this requirement
is a breach of contract subject to damages as set forth in the contract
and shall result in denial of further requests for use of Museum research
collection materials.
- The Museum enforces its rights of ownership, copyright,
and other title of certain materials in its research collection.
