In keeping with the summer theme of the current issue of the Russian River Recorder, the August Photo of the Month depicts the Russian River Water Carnival.  This particular photo was taken on August 15, 1908. 

A note on the rear of the photo says: "Ed Snook float which won 2nd prize at the Water Carnival - Healdsburg, CA - August 15, 1908."  If this spectacular swan float won 2nd prize, doesn't it make you wonder what won first?
