Photo Artifact Number 00.34.1 A "Celebrate Healdsburg" party will be held in the Plaza on May 9.  In the "old days" Healdsburg had other, very colorful kinds of celebrations. This month's photo depicts one of them.

Noted in the book titled Images of America, Healdsburg. The winner of a wine barrel race in the Russian River, believed to be Lillian Page, gets a victory dunking during the 1946 Harvest Festival with the help of Billie Jo Bennett Haley, one of the finalists. Other participants include Lenora Lewis and Diane Wolking standing to the left behind Haley. Local wine businessman Joe Vercelli, in white shirt sleeves on the right, was one of the race's sponsors.
