Description Mission Coiled Basket Attributed to the Luiseņo of Southern California

Dimensions: Diameter is 9 inches.
Condition: Good.
Estimated Date of Origin: 1910.
Description: This bowl shape has sides that slope inward to partly enclose the opening. There are triangular shapes on the upper side. The weft is sumac stems that are coiled over a bundle foundation of deer grass. The triangular shapes are woven in dyed Juncus textilis. Coiling direction is to the right with an exterior work surface and the beginning coil ends are tucked under the weft on the exterior.
