Description
|
| Overskirt/train; for wedding dress;1927; cream color silk satin band which fastens at waist and then falls in folds to hip. At hip tiers of scallops bordered with sheer silk . There are 4 tiers at front, progressing to 10 at center back. Tiers are built over a foundation of sheer silk tulle. Six snaps attached train to dress across back. Elastic band w/hook and eye fastens at front. Train meets at front and overlaps. Silk sashing at top overlaps. Wrinkling at front edge suggests that this may have been gathered and pinned (pin holes evident) so that end formed points. Conversely, it may have been gathered, pinned and ends tucked inside so as not to show. Front of train hit wearer just below calf while longer sides touch floor & back trails on floor. Measurements: Top Hip Band, 34 x 10.5 inches. First row of scallop drops to 24 inches. Each scallop is 9.5 inches long adding that much in progression to center back which is 51 inches from hip band. Train is 52 inches at widest point. There are 10 tiers. Worn by Cleone Snook Tilley at her wedding, 1927. |
