Pomo Twined Winnowing Tray
Dimensions: At the rim the diameter is 16 inches. Condition: Excellent. Estimated Date of Origin: 1910.
Description: This is a heavily decorated winnower with more than the usual amount of redbud in the design. It was obtained from the Luna family of Alexander Valley. The lower two-thirds area of the basket is thickly close-twined with alternating circular bands of light and dark in diagonal twining. The rim is multi-strand peeled willow that is loosely twined and incorporates the warp rods that are bend and twined in. Redbud and sedge are the weft materials in the close-twined portion. There are also two thin circular bands of lattice twining, each with two exterior warp rods. 6-1-05 Healdsburg Museum Collection Benjamin Benson American Society of Appraisers |
