Newspapers
The Healdsburg Museum has collected and organized an extensive archive of Healdsburg and Sonoma County newspapers dating from 1856, the year before the town of Healdsburg was founded. These newspapers are preserved on microfilm, thanks to a 1999 grant from the Sonoma County Community Foundation, and are available for visitor research by appointment within the Museum's Research Center. The Museum has two microfilm reader/printers for public use.
The historical newspapers are indexed in a card catalog from the former Healdsburg Library, cross-referenced according to subject and name, making it relatively easy to find and copy articles on topics of interest. Volunteers have been working to create, maintain and update this searchable newspaper index since 1976. It is the cornerstone of the Research Center. Digitization of the important information in the newspaper index is currently underway.
