Statement of Purpose
The Healdsburg Museum & Historical Society (HM&HS)
Endowment Fund was established in January 1994 in order to assure
long term financial stability for Museum operations. Currently,
the Fund has nearly reached its one
million dollar goal. The Endowment Fund is invested with and
managed by the Community Foundation Sonoma County (assets of $88
million), which provides that service for sixty non-profit
organizations in Sonoma County. All directed and memorial
donations given to the Museum as well as all net income from
specific fund raising events are deposited in the HM&HS
Endowment Fund account at the Community Foundation.
Why Give?
Gifts to HM&HS support its mission of:
recording, collecting,
exhibiting and preserving the history of the Healdsburg region and
actively fostering appreciation of local history through its
research
activities and educational programs.
Benefits of Giving
Depending on the arrangement, donors may enjoy
the following:
* Fulfillment of a philanthropic goal
* A charitable deduction for income tax
* Avoidance of capital gains tax when giving appreciated assets
* A regular income stream when you establish a life-income gift
Methods of Giving
HM&HS is a non-profit organization for
educational and scientific
purposes within the meaning of Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal
Revenue Code. As such gifts are deductible as charitable donations
for income tax purposes. HM&HS gladly accepts donations for
its Endowment Fund of cash, check, stock, mutual fund shares or
real property. Non-cash items are immediately converted to cash
and deposited with the Community Foundation.
Additional planned giving options include:
1. Bequest from a will, trust or individual
retirement account in
which the Museum is named as a beneficiary with proceeds
distributed upon the death of the donor. This is the simplest and
least complicated method of giving.
2. Life insurance gift with the Museum named as a beneficiary.
3. Life estate gift in which ownership of real property is
transferred to the Museum with the proviso that the owner retains
the right to occupy the premises for the rest of his/her life.
4. Charitable Remainder Trust. There are several types in
which the donor makes a gift of assets naming HM&HS as the
ultimate beneficiary. The donor receives valuable tax benefits and
retains for life the income generated from the assets given to the
trust.
On all planned gifts, the donor should seek advice and assistance
from trusted financial and legal advisors.
