Recent Pre-Schoolers at the Museum
By Daniel Murley
In an attempt to bring history to those who will eventually be making history, the Museum hosted two groups of twenty pre-school children. The major hits with the youngsters were the Native American exhibit and the Rancho Period bear trap. The cute and curious children were as well behaved a group as one would like to address. I was lucky however to have Whitney Hopkins along with me on both presentations to help me through with words in Spanish. The majority of the little ones spoke English but seemed to be more comfortable with some words in Spanish. No translation was need for my impression of the sound of a grizzly bear which had gotten its foot caught in the huge metal jaws of the forbidding trap. I commended the children, their teachers and their parents for the courteous attention. I hope they return and bring their parents as I encouraged. "The past is present" at the Healdsburg Museum!
