FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Healdsburg Museum Exhibit to showcase the Russian River and it’s historical importance to the Healdsburg area and Sonoma County
Healdsburg, California – February 12, 2011 – If you would like to celebrate the good old days on the Russian River and for those who don’t share those memories—to look at the river with new eyes and appreciate the fun of the past and possibilities for tomorrow, then our upcoming exhibit entitled “Russian River Good Old Days” is for you!
Curated by Holly Hoods, this exhibit will be on display in the Museum gallery from February 16 through June 30, 2011. This exhibition will celebrate the Russian River before 1960, featuring the Healdsburg Water Carnivals and Harvest Festivals of the early 1900s; Merryland and Memorial Beach recreation; artifacts and photographs from the popular Russian River resorts, the river dance halls, and roller rinks of the 1910s -1950s; early bathing suits; and paintings of the Russian River by local artists of the early 20th Century, from the Museum’s collection of historical artwork.
There will be a community photo bulletin board featured with the exhibition. We want locals to participate! Bring in your 1960 or earlier photo of fun on the Russian River so that we can scan it and display it with the exhibition.
Come see a scale model (diorama) of the Healdsburg Water Carnival and the Railroad Bridge with tiny floats and boats and listen to our professionally recorded audio tour comprised of 12-14 audio clips each presenting 2 minutes of interpretive information about a selected artifact or photo on display.
